What's Tara's folk ?

Founded by members of the Booze Brothers, the band was originally merely an
acoustic version of their rockish big brother. After the arrival of young accordion
genius Rémi Geffroy in 2016, some new material began to emerge from the band's rehearsels. These new sounds provided the band with an original flavour and a new style. While touring with the Booze Brothers, Tara’s Folk managed to find some time to deliver gigs on festivals in France and across Europe

The feedback from the public was unanimous, charmed as they were by the melodies of the fiddle and the button accordion, moved by the singers hoarse vocals and finally shaken by the energetic percussions. Pushed by music fans, Tara’s folk found itself at home in the heart of folk clubs and celtic festivals in Europe

With the global pandemic in 2020 and all live gigs coming to a halt, the trio made use of their spare time to record their first EP, with a few guest stars and notably Julien Casanova on the fiddle.

EP Leaving June 2021

Every element of this disc represents Tara’s Folk : melody, rhythm, commitment to humanity, consideration towards all those left behind in this frenzied race to consumption. When leaving our familiar environment to go seeking something else, by force or by choice, and if the welcome is made possible, the result can be beyond hope..

“Leaving” is an alien on the Folk planet, animated by an energy often lacking in this music, due to uncanny percussive instruments. The tracks here will remind one of the Levellers or Franck Turner for the folk rock energy, Ten strings and a goatskin or Uishedwr for the trad part or even Dead South and Sarah Jarosz

Folk guitars, bouzouki and bodhràn are the rock on which button accordion, fiddle and even at times whistle or banjo provide earworm killer tunes. Far from the drawling and plaintive sounds sometimes heard, these five songs are a musical and anthropologic melting pot, as well as a brew of folklore and rock’n’roll, of hope and anger.
